Nick Blinko – Pickman’s model

Lovecraft never had a greater limner than Nickolas Blinko – or at least he never had such a limner as Nick who could with such insight express the neuroses laid bare in “Pickman’s Model”. And it’s that profound insight that makes this work the significant and singular contribution it is. The unnamed and harried narrator of Pickman’s tale, via a rushed monologue in the guise of dialogue, tells us Pickman’s tale as a means of exorcising himself of what he’s seen. Similarly, the desperate yet intricate delineations made by the hand of Nick Blinko serve as their own means of exorcism that opens wide the door to Pickman’s subterranean studio and, in turn, to the haunted genius of both Lovecraft and Blinko.
